We checked the wintering vipers

As spring is approaching we held our “usual” number check in the Hungarian Meadow Viper Conservation Centre. We used again REMS Orcus Color pipe camera, provided by REMS Hungary Kft. free of charge. We checked all possible burrows, and counted number of vipers found, which will be checked. Analysis of the recordings is still in progress, but we can already claim, that this wintering was successful, as we did not find any dead specimens. Especially good news that newborn vipers were successful in surviving winter. Due to the mild weather many snakes were spending more time on the surface. Most of the nearly 60 vipers, staying on the surface, were males.
