As every year, the first Saturday of September is dedicated to Hungarian Meadow Viper Day, so we are waiting those who are interested to learn more about the Hungarian Meadow Viper or our conservation effort with various programs in various corners of the country.
In the Hungarian Meadow Viper Centre, a guided trek on the recently renewed education trail started in the morning, followed by visit to the Centre, where lecture and related movies were presented in the renovated Education Hall.
At Zoo Szeged, we measured the vipers on display, giving a prime opportunity for visitors to meet the rare and strictly protected Hungarian meadow viper up close and personnel. Over the whole day our stand provided more information about the species and its conservation.
A Family Day was organised for the event in the Ócsa Landscape House, focusing on the Hungarian Meadow Viper and the ancient lifestyle of the people living in the surrounding former marshland, also providing a good opportunity to learn more about the work of Ócsai Madárvárta Association. Kids could take part in various creative crafting activities.
In the Budapest Zoo and Botanical Garden a guided tour were organized in the Venom House where visitors could meet Hungarian meadow vipers and other venomous snakes living here.
Additional stands were set up in Kecskemét Game Park, and Janos Xantus Zoo in Győr, where our colleagues provided more information on the species and its conservation.
