Winter is approaching, and the days and nights are getting colder. As they prepare for winter, reptiles become less active and stop feeding.

Once again, this year’s event attracted many visitors with an interest in reptiles, who had the opportunity to observe one of Hungary’s rarest and most endangered species up close.
A new generation of Hungarian meadow vipers has been born in 2025

The breeding season for the Hungarian meadow vipers at the Viper Centre has once again come to a successful end. A total of 354 baby vipers were born in July and August, including 164 males and 190 females.
Release of snakes

Between May and June 2025, a total of 174 snakes were introduced to five locations.
Breeding season begins

With the arrival of spring and good weather, snakes begin their mating season in April and May.
Nature awakens

As soon as the air temperature rises above 10°C in spring, we open the burrows in the terrariums at the Viper Centre and begin weighing the snakes that hibernate underground during the winter.

In January, when temperatures fall below 0 °C and the vipers have settled into their winter shelters, we inspect the artificial burrows that were installed at the release sites.
